Mental Health and Wellbeing

Mental health and well-being plays a vital role in education and impact on our students’ learning. Here at St James Federation we are committed to advancing and safeguarding students’ emotional well-being and good health.

This academic year the school is committed to working towards the School Mental Health Award. This is supported by the Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Beckett University who say “The Department for Education recognises the direct link between positive mental health in schools and successful educational outcomes; the Mental Health Award for Schools builds on this link and provides a framework for educational institutions to evidence policies and initiatives that work towards improving emotional health and well-being for both staff and pupils.”

At St James Junior school throughout the curriculum we teach children about positive mental health and well-being including; mindfulness lessons and assemblies, mental health included as part of our Health Living Week and bespoke topics in our PSHE curriculum.

Please see our policy page to see out Mental Health and Well-being Policy for further information.

At St James Junior we school we have a Mental Health First Aider: Mrs Haines.

If you have any questions or are worried about your child's mental health the please do not hesitate to get in touch with either school who can point you in the direction of helpful advice and information or make a referral to other services if needed.
